A Virtualization Infrastructure Cost Model for 5G Network Slice Provisioning in a Smart Factory

Network slicing is a key enabler for providing new services to industry verticals. In order enable network slice provisioning, it important study the type allocation different device types in real industrial case. Furthermore, costs of required virtualization infrastructure need be analyzed various cloud deployment scenarios. this paper, cost model needed provisioning developed and subsequently applied smart factory. model, devices are mapped such that each factory provisioned with one or more types, as required. The number supported per forecasted 2021–2030, total ownership, type, every calculated. results three scenarios: local, distributed, centralized. centralized scenario was found have lowest cost. Moreover, sensitivity analysis conducted by varying growth, factories, level isolation between slices, resource overbooking. resulting evaluation breakdown can help stakeholders select suitable scenario, gauge their investments, exercise pricing.
